About Ray

Ray Pague’s passion for art emerged in childhood. At the age of 12 he won a television in a drawing contest. Recognizing talent in their 14 year old son, his parents purchased a correspondence art course for him. By 18, he had developed hand-lettering skills that started his professional art career.

At 21 years of age, Ray started his career as an illustrator. After completing a certification “Draftsman Illustrator” course provided by the US Navy, he was hired by the Department of Defense (Army) as an illustrator. He continued in this capacity until 1987 when he moved with his family to Atlanta to enter The Portfolio Center for Graphic Arts. Following completion of the Portfolio Center program, he took a position as a technical illustrator for EZ Go Golf Car Company, working in their art department for 4 ½ years. From there, he became Chief Illustrator for ClubCar Golf Car Manufacturing Co. for an additional six years. Since that time, he has devoted himself to fine art.

Ray was fortunate to study fine art with notable artists such as James Palmer O’Neil Lyle, a master painter in the Renaissance tradition. He also studied with Ann Didusch Schuler at the Schuler School of Fine Art and Daniel Greene, a renowned teacher and artist from New York. He is a lifelong student of greatness and continues his independent study of past masters and their historic contexts in a variety of media.

After a number of fruitful art years in the mountains of North Carolina, Ray and Linda, his wife, moved to the mountains of Southern Oregon where they reside today. Though media and subjects have changed through the years, Ray’s commitment to advancing his skills in several media and offering his artistic expressions and works to the world is constant and abiding.

Ray currently paints both en plein air and in a home studio. He is a member of the Grants Pass Museum of Art and the Southern Oregon Guild of Artists and Artisans.
